Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. 2 Corinthians 4:2
Paul firmly exhorts the disciples of Corinth to not lose heart, because God’s mercy has transformed them and given a new freedom in and by the Spirit. People of the law or old covenant lived by it’s rigid rules. Paul, a former Pharisee and keeper of the old covenant and opposer of Christians, is now renouncing the old message. He connects his old ways and lifestyle with being shameful and deceptive.
The new message of the Gospel and reconciliation through Jesus alone is brought by Paul with honesty, integrity, and no longer with a cold or seared conscience. He wants to be true, transparent – not distorting the Word of God rather plainly teaching the truth.
As a minister, pastor, and instructor of the Word of God, I desire to be a real, honest teacher of His Word. In God’s sight, I want deliver messages that are relevant, real, convicting, inspiring and truthful and truth-filled.
There are cunning and masterful ways to present the Gospel in persuasive, motivational and inspirational ways! Even being “just slightly” dishonest to appeal to someone’s emotion’s can be a temptation. WHOAH – isn’t this MAN-ipulation!? Yowzah!!! I want to be a teacher, pastor, leader who is used of God to bring true formation. YES – a God formation, not a Man-ipulation!
Be careful – Don’t Distort the Truth Rod. I feel God saying to my conscience and heart to be studied, well prepared and convicted to growing in knowing God through HIs Word. Not to just “prepare messages.” I can get caught up in my preparation to “present the Gospel” that I can compromise knowing God intimately in my own heart! WOW – that’s another Yuk thought!
Ok – here we go again Lord…Help me! Thank you for Your conviction – You are working in me to be Word informed, and to study, pray, prepare in a way where YOU transform my heart and life. Help me not to yield to a MAN-ipulation in my study and presentation of Your Word. The God-Formation work of the Holy Spirit is what I hunger to encounter and experience! May I be a pastor and teacher of Your Holy Word, teaching Your truth with a great love – for You, Your Word, Your people! Help me to be Truth Filled and Truth Full!
