Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only. Matthew 4:8-10

The Great Temptation Account.
After being baptized, Jesus is called into a fight, not just with the devil, but with His own humanity. Yes, the Son of God was tempted. He fought temptation which means He fought and resisted sin.
Hebrews 4:15 says Jesus sympathizes with our weaknesses, and was tempted in EVERY WAY as we are, yet without sin. I personally don’t think the fight against temptation and sinning ended after this wilderness experience. Jesus as the Son of Man, God come in human form – was tempted to sin until the cross and HIs death.
JESUS: The God Man and Sin.
One of the most profound statements I’ve heard about Jesus in relationship to His perfect life is by Dr. Bruce Ware. He says, “Jesus did not sin, because as the Son of Man He fought and resisted sin. He could not sin because He was the Son of God!”
Could Jesus have been also insinuating that His choice of worship – is His choice of service?

Worship and Serve Him Only?
I think WHO or WHAT I Choose to WORSHIP – is WHO or WHAT I will SERVE!
What part of this world’s kingdom, am I willing to, or do I bow down to worship? I’m reminded that my desires or affections can lead to a “worship experience.”
What I believe will influence and determine my behavior. Who or what I worship or adore, will affect the way I live. Simply – Who or What I love, I live for. I want to WORSHIP YOU – and SERVE YOU!
I’ve heard “Christians” say that they’ve experienced a “worship of God” in a very secular music concert -even with cussing, sexual innuendo’s, etc. God may and can move a heart to worship Him, in any situation. But I think we Christians need to be very careful and attentive – because our affections and what we desire or like…will move our emotions, feelings and attention towards “ a kind of worship.”
Worship the fruit?
I’m saying – away from me satan, in the area of acquiring, pursuing and building “a church.” A natural question asked among church folk, especially leaders is – how many are at your church? How many are serving or receiving Jesus into their lives? We measure the FRUIT of what we see, and sometimes neglect the ROOTS of who is growing and being transformed!
We like counting the fruit, and can neglect caring for the roots.

Dear Spirit of God. Please help me to worship and serve You only! Please continue to convict me of any unrighteous worship and service – within my heart!
O God…forgive me for worshiping and adoring “me”…to much. It’s subtle – but it’s there! Thank You for Your example of fighting sin as the Son of Man – and overcoming sin – as the Son of the Living God! I Love You!
