Then the eyes of both were opened, and they knew that they were naked. And they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loincloths. Genesis 3:7
Nakedness discloses an awareness of sin, flaws and a knowing that we are no longer right with our Creator. Not being right with God reveals itself in various ways and forms through our lives. Feeling unworthy, insecure, shame, guilt or even pride, being carefree-carelessness and even reckless people living in self centered ways. As if we are self made, self sufficient and righteous in our own selves.
The advent of Jesus brings healing and wholeness to the naked and shamed disobedient sinner. The clothing of Jesus love and forgiveness brings acceptance and freedom. The “fig leaf clothes” can represent man’s attempts to hide from God or try to cover up our sinfulness.
Thank you Lord! My sinful separation from You and nakedness has been clothed with Your perfect love and acceptance!
Is there an area in your life where you feel ashamed? Where your spiritual eyes are opened to seeing a sinful area in your life? God loves when we are vulnerable, honest and repentant – when we choose to ask Him for His love and grace!
