December 13 | HOLY SPIRIT
“How will this be,” Mary asked the angel, “since I am a virgin?” The angel answered, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God. Luke 1:34-35
Why did God choose Mary? God delivered His Son to earth through this ordinary, young, imperfect yet pure-virgin woman. The Lord hand selected her to be the earthly mother of Jesus, certainly knowing the character and heart of this young woman. Her response recognizing the great goodness of God after the angel’s announcement reveals her trust and faith in God.
Jesus the holy one, who is called the Son of God was conceived by the Holy Spirit.
A great lesson is the presence of God’s Holy Spirit involved in creation of Jesus as human. The mention of the Holy Spirit displays God’s involvement as the Spirit. God the Holy Spirit is involved in the procreation of Jesus. Interestingly, the promise of the Spirit comes through Jesus, after His ascension.
While we do not worship Mary as some religions do, let’s honor Mary by acknowledging her character and faith-trust response to God. Do you believe this same Holy Spirit is alive now – and is working on behalf of the Father in your life? How so?
