When I felt secure, I said, “I will never be shaken.” O LORD, when you favored me, you made my mountain stand firm; but when you hid your face, I was dismayed. Psalm 30:6-7
In it’s entirety, David’s psalm (ch. 30) sings of God’s great love, faithfulness and mercy. I admire the steady focus of David to re-anchor his heart and soul to God’s character.
But in a few sentences, David pens what seems to be a roller coaster of emotions and thoughts. From surety, security and unshakable faith – to being disturbed and dismayed.
I find myself relating to the roller coaster I ride when it seems God is very present and life is good. Then a few sudden twists of events propel my mind to roller coaster out of control.
There are times when I don’t feel or sense God’s presence or favor. It’s in those times words like these re-anchor my though life and emotions to the God of David. Like David, I want to be a worshiper in and through it all, not allowing the roller coaster of circumstances dictate my faithfulness to God.
