“So we have stopped evaluating others from a human point of view. At one time we thought of Christ merely from a human point of view. How differently we know him now!”
2 Corinthians 5:16 NLT

I’m so human … what about you?

I remember as a non-Christian being so adamantly opposed to Christians—but not necessarily to Christ. Weird huh? But not really.

What I believe Paul is referencing is how we view other Christians in ordinary life.

Before Christ changed my heart, I viewed people—and Jesus—through a worldly lens. I judged others by their appearance, lifestyle, and way they talked. But when I received Jesus into my life, I began to view others with a different and new lens: the lens of grace.

Paul is reminding us that when we belong to Christ, we don’t just see differently, we know differently. We no longer view others through our human biases and lens but through the gracious love of Jesus.

That means we see others not for who they are but for who they can become in Christ. We stop labeling, start loving, and begin viewing people through the same lens of love and grace that rescued us. Help me, Lord Jesus!

So let’s do our best to pause before reacting to someone’s words or actions, and ask our hearts:
“Are we viewing them from our human lens—or from Christ’s?”

Because when we see through His eyes, we begin to love like He does. Lord, help us to see with your eyes, feel with Your heart, and live with Your aloha!
